We took a little road trip this past weekend to Grants Pass, Oregon to ride the jet boats on the Rogue River. This was my Mom's idea and it's the boys Birthday gift this year.
While driving there we saw these incredible clouds and as we got closer, we realized they were smoke clouds. Apparently, there were several fires in the area.
Once we got to our room, it was time to swim! The pool was just deep enough that Adam couldn't touch, so I asked that he be careful and raise his hand if he needed help. This put him in a grumpy mood, but I explained to him that I wanted him to have fun and didn't want something scary to happen. Keeping it real...he was a little stinker and a few of the pictures show that! You can also see the color of the pictures changes a bit as the smoke blew into the area.
We went to Big Bear Diner for dinner where Carson had fish and chips and Adam had ribs. On our way back to the room Carson saw the "red moon" and it was VERY red, but we figured out it was actually the sun. The smoke in the area makes it look red. Our pictures do not portray how red it actually was! We got back to our room so we could relax and Adam took a bath. I had to wash his hair like when he was younger. We went to bed, but most of us didn't sleep very well...
The next morning was our jet boat trip! We got up, showered, got dressed, and hit the continental breakfast. Carson was in heaven because he could eat a lot and I made Adam a waffle. We then headed to the line for the boats. It was hot and sunny, I wondered if our sweatshirts were necessary. We got on the boats in the very back row. We had a very funny guide who had been there for 28 years. At first it was clear, but then it was like we hit a wall of smoke. It was still very interesting even though we couldn't see much. It was a bit cold with the boat was going 47 mph and we were all glad we brought our sweatshirts.
We stopped for lunch where we had chicken, potatoes, salad, rolls, and berry cobbler for dessert. Ash was falling on us, but it was all part of the experience. After lunch we did several spins on our way back....and got very wet. It was so funny. Adam sat on the edge on the way back and I was taking video of a spin and holding onto Adam and I could hear Carson saying "Mom, hold on!!!" So cute and funny.
We drove home and we all napped except my Mom who was driving. We eventually stopped for gas and food. We all wanted Taco Bell, but Adam wanted KFC and a "bowl" of chicken. I thought he meant one of their bowls that are like $6, but nope he meant a BUCKET of chicken. I ended up buying him one because he had been such a stinker and was hungry. He had the whole thing eaten by that evening with a little of Carson's help!
We had a wonderful time! Thank you Mom for a great trip!!!
