Larry and I both took the day off on Friday to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. We booked a room at the beach with a Jacuzzi tub and ocean view for two nights.
We were able to sleep in a bit, play on the computer, and get ready in a leisurely fashion on Friday morning. I had slept in curlers so I fussed with my hair more than usual! Ha! We left around 11 a.m. though and headed towards Lincoln City. We arrived and decided to eat at Blackfish Cafe. We had delicious cheese steak sandwiches...like to die for sandwiches. After lunch, it was still too early to check in so we drove along the coast down to Depoe Bay. We saw a squirrel on the rocks near the ocean and thought that was odd. After that we headed toward our hotel where we were able to check in early. We got to our room and exchanged gifts. I gave Larry his gift first which was a $200 gift card for a new barbecue. I then opened my gift which was an iPad!!! I also received some crazy hiking socks that were $14 a pair!!! We got my iPad set up and played with some of the camera settings. We also checked out the view from our 4th story balcony.
We went to dinner at Kyllo's where we had an ocean view. We both had drinks and steaks. It was so yummy! After dinner we stopped at the store for champagne and I picked out the best champagne I've ever had....Ballatore's moscato rose! It was sweet and delicious! We went back to our room and filled the tub. The weather was dreary and rainy, but we didn't care. We drank two bottles of champagne and talked for hours in the tub. Towards the end of our Jacuzzi tub session, someone came in our room! I originally thought the wind had blown our door open or something, but the hotel had accidentally given another guest the key to our room. I was embarrassed, they were embarrassed, and Larry didn't care! Ha ha ha!
The next day, we woke up and had some coffee in our room. We got dressed and headed to breakfast at Vivian's. We had never eaten there and it was very good! Then we worked our way to the outlet mall. I got a new sweatshirt and a Coach iPad case and Larry got a few tool type things for his gun cleaning kit. We went back to our room and napped for awhile and then went for a walk on the beach. It was a gorgeous day and the beach was pretty crowded since it was the Saturday of a long weekend.
We got back to our room and decided we were starving since we hadn't eaten since breakfast. We went to Pier 101 for dinner and had onion rings for an appetizer, prime rib for dinner (Larry had the big cut), and dessert too! I had peppermint ice cream pie and Larry had a five berry cobbler! Everything was huge and I feel like we rolled out of the restaurant. We went back to our room and read on the balcony while watching the sunset. I was happy we were able to see it since it had been rainy and cloudy the night before. We got in the Jacuzzi tub again, but only for half an hour or so. We relaxed in our room the rest of the evening reading and watching t.v.
The next morning I woke up and started the coffee. I looked out our sliding glass window and saw a lady writing our names in the sand. I immediately yelled to Larry "Our names are in the sand out here!" He came over and said "It has to be another Larry and Katie." I responded with "How many can there be?" I got my camera because we couldn't tell who the culprit was, but we were able to zoom in and see that it was one of Larry's Facebook friends (actually the Mom of his high school girl friend). She lives right around the corner from where we stayed and was on her morning walk. It was so simple, but so sweet! Social media can be a great thing!!!
We got ready to go, packed up, and checked out. I explained our unexpected visitor situation during the check out process and we will be receiving a gift certificate for a free night in the future! WOO HOO! We went back to the outlet mall for Larry to look at a few things he was interested in. He ended up getting some new pants and then we were out of there...it was very crowded. We stopped at Burger King for lunch and then headed home! It was a wonderful weekend and we figured out that our ten year anniversary is a few weeks before Carson graduates from high school. I should start saving money now...! Ha ha ha!
