Kati's August Crafts

I only made a ghost banner this month.  I saw the idea online and thought using pages from an old book to create the ghosts was cute, but we don't have any old books!  Well, we found a book on our walk to the abandoned psychiatric hospital which makes the banner extra spooky.  I found the string and mini clothespins at Walmart for like 30 pesos each, so I spent a few dollars to create this ghost banner.  Also, we just purchased/put together the bookshelf that's pictured here.  We are working on the styling/decor as it seems a little brown and blah to me.

Pool Boy

 Our neighbors asked if Larry would clean their pool while they were in Canada for two-ish months.  Larry obliged and we were able to swim here and there as a reward.  The pictures are from a few different cleaning sessions.

Stormy Summer Skies

 We have had several afternoons in the past week with thunder, lightning, and rain.  Rain is so rare that we go outside to watch; the neighbors were even taking pictures of their baby in the rain.  Ha ha ha!  The other day I caught a dust storm on video and today, a lightning bolt.  

Sunday Morning Walk

 This morning we went on a walk around the closed and abandoned psychiatric hospital that is behind our house.  It was interesting to see paperwork and patient files all over the ground; it seems privacy laws aren't a thing here.  The vandalism is a bit sad, but I must admit I think the graffiti is neat.  I love the bright colors even though I have no idea what it says/means.

Lizard Lounge

 Larry wanted to create a place for the lizards to drink water and relax.  He bought a solar powered fountain that was the starting point of this idea.  Then he used several popsicle sticks to create a little hangout/home for the lizards.  This is a work in progress as he wants to add bricks and rocks so the lizards have shade and hiding places.  

Banana Cream Pie

 What's the best way to end a 100 hour fast?  Make and eat a banana cream pie!  That's right, Larry didn't eat for 100 hours!  He tortured himself by watching videos of people cooking and looking up recipes during that 100 hour time frame.  After the fast, he made this banana cream pie with shredded coconut. 

Comitan Beach Day

Yesterday, we went to Comitan Beach with Lorne, Joy, Paul, and Esther.  We saw a fairly large jellyfish, swam for quite some time, and had our packed lunches on the beach.  This beach is the closest to our house and while it's not our favorite, it's convenient and nice to get away for a few hours.
